Bathroom, Wetrooms and Showering Remodelling
Complete Bathroom Renovation in Woodford, Kilkhampton
This job was in a fantastic house on the far outskirts of Kilkhampton.
Although it’s a six bed house, they have just one tiny bathroom which they wanted to change to a walk-in shower room.
When we started taking the tiles off it very quickly became apparent that the walls were in a shocking state – the plaster was coming off the walls over the bath, which were also two inches out of vertical. To get over this we filleted out the walls with battens and shims and then clad them in tile-backer boards.
A new raised wooden platform was built, the shower drain grille was installed and then two layers of waterproofing membrane were added to the floor and one layer of waterproofing to the walls.
A new dwarf wall was built to hide the cistern and a new ceiling was put in slightly lower than the original.
A 2.5bar shower pump was installed for great pressure in the shower.
The shower area had two niches built in before being completely tiled, with half-tiling to the dry areas of the room. The final touch was a new wooden door threshold to hide the tile edges .
All building works and plastering were done by us.
Complete Bathroom Renovation in Holsworthy
This job was taken on as an addition after the completion of the installation of a new oil boiler and heating system in Killatree, nr Holsworthy
The customer had started some of the work and in an effort to move things ahead more quickly and save some money had already undertaken the removal of the old bathroom, laid down some slef levelling compound on a floor sloping by 60mm from back to front (don’t you love old york slabs laid on earth?) and under took to prepare the cob and terrible partition walls ready for tiling.
The walls remained out of level and curved in some places due to the nature of the old cob and stone bases. I removed the existing levelling in part and re-levelled the floor, as although the walls could be um, finessed to some extent, the floor needed to be completely level for tiling.
The deep angled window reveals could not have tiled edging on the verticals and so the tiles were chamfered on the rear faces to allow a grout line with some small compromises because of the still un-flat (curved in parts) walls
The customer was very happy with the overall effect, which remained rustic while still having modern finishes, a claw-foot bath and solid wood vanity unit.
All materials were supplied by the customer and this was a labour only job, apart from a few necessary purchases by me here and there.

Cloakroom Renovation
This job was the last renovation I did before moving to Devon.
Plain and boring before, the customer’s choice of sanitaryware and tiling was at the higher end of the budget range and the standard of finish was exacting.
The reason that they chose me was because of my experience of changing the soil drainage, waste and domestic supplies that was needed before even starting the finishings aspects of making a room look lovely.
New cast-iron style radiator replacement in Bradworthy.
This small plumbing job job in Bradworthy was for a repeat customer the lovely John and Karen) who needed heat in their converted garage to use the new utility room and boot room in comfort.
The first visot was to first-fix waste, hot and cold services and the flow and return.
Run in copper for water and plastic for the waste, I hope you will agree that anything on show looks neat and tidy.
Customers supplied the radiators and valves and I must say that they chose well. I think the rads look great!
